Kilimanjaro Day Hike Option 1: Shira Plateau Day Hike

Day 1: Shira Plateau Hike and return

After breakfast, you’ll meet your professional guide and transfer to the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, entering through Londorossi Gate for registration. From here, you’ll drive up to the Shira Plateau and begin your hike across open moorland with stunning views of Kibo Peak. The trail is gentle and scenic, passing through unique vegetation and volcanic landscapes. After enjoying a packed lunch and time to take in the views, you’ll return by vehicle and transfer back to your lodge.

Distance: ~6–8 km | Elevation: 3,400 m / 11,150 ft to 3,800 m / 12,467 ft

Kilimanjaro Day Hike Option 2: Marangu Day Hike

Day 1: Hike to Mandara Hut and back to park gate

After breakfast, you’ll meet your professional guide and transfer to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate to register. Begin trekking through the montane rainforest toward Mandara Hut, enjoying the sights of colobus monkeys and abundant birdlife. A side visit to Maundi Crater allows you to take in panoramic views of Northern Tanzania and Kenya. After lunch at Mandara Hut, you’ll descend back to the park gate and transfer to Moshi or Arusha.

Day 1: Hike through Machame Forest and return to park gate

After breakfast, you’ll meet your professional guide and transfer to Machame Gate on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro for registration. Begin your hike through the dense montane rainforest, following a well-defined trail surrounded by tall trees, ferns, and rich wildlife. This route is slightly steeper than Marangu, offering a more adventurous feel as you ascend toward Machame Camp. After a scenic picnic lunch along the way, you’ll descend back to the gate and transfer to Moshi or Arusha.
